5 Summer Decorating Ideas

Here are 5 easy summer decorating ideas:

Break out the red, white and blue or maybe just two. If you don't want to go all the way
with patriotic décor, choose a combination of red and white or blue and white to quickly
update a space. The simplified color scheme will let your style shine without feeling like
you've walked into a theme room!

2. Add in three key home décor accessory pieces in your choice of colors (be it red or blue
or even navy or indigo stripe bedding which is so popular.) A beautifully woven merino
wool blanket by Swans Island made in Maine is the perfect way to brighten a sofa or
cozy nook. Add the same shade of blue in a throw pillow, such as our ticking stripe
bolster pillow in classic dark blue across the room on a chaise and replace a tired
lampshade with a painted one in the perfect indigo shade. The repetition of color
sprinkled around the room will carry your eye throughout, without needing to change key
investment furniture pieces. Though I am a sucker for an indigo Belgian Linen sofa I
found at market.

3. Let the light shine in. Look to your windows and update heavy draperies which could be
cleaned, then stored for next fall. Replace with simple gossamer-like window panels to
brighten a traditional room for minimal expense.

4. Roll up the heavy wool carpet and think of adding a simple natural woven sisal or
sea grass area rug with a simple cotton or Sunbrella fabric border.

5. Look to slipcovers to dress down more formal pieces. A large drop cloth of muslin,
cotton twill or even a vintage white chenille bedspread or quilt is equally effective.
Artfully drape your existing upholstery add a few of our seersucker or ticking stripe
throw pillows for a fun pop of patriotic color without going overboard!
